Just to let you know that I completed the Twin Cities Marathon in
Minneapolis, Minnesota on the 7th October, despite the weather being very unseasonal,
with temperatures being in the mid 80's on race day!
The race started at the impressive Metrodome stadium (David Beckham was
playing there the same week) in downtown Minneapolis at 8am, and even then it was
warm so I felt a little nervous. I was able to wave to Tracy and the kids at
the 1 mile mark, and at that point I felt great.
I passed half way feeling fine, and on target for my planned time, but, due
to the intense heat and lack of shade, had to slow down considerably in the
second half and take on fluids to give me a chance of finishing.

It was a great race, and took in some of the top sights in Minneapolis and
Saint Paul, crossing the Mississippi at around the 18 mile mark, which I was
glad to reach. I remember at some point asking one of the spectators (of which
there were over 300,000 on the course!) how far it was to the river (I knew
if I could reach there I would finish)... I think he thought I was speaking
some other language, and I guess was a little surprised to hear an English
accent. I was never so glad to see the State Capitol building looming in the
distace at Saint Paul and the finish line, which I managed to cross with my arms
in the air. (see pics)
It was great to finish the Marathon, and at the same time raise some money
for Oscar.... Thanks to everyone who supported me and gave me
words of encouragement.
