Grandad of tragic toddler, lights up house to raise money for oscar

Steve Woodall the  granddad of tragic tumble dryer tot Georgina Bywater hopes to turn his heartache into hope this year by lighting up his home in aid of young Oscar Fradgley.

The big-hearted 48-year-old of Hawbush Road has been decking his home and garden with thousands of festive fairy lights for the last few years to help give good causes a boost, but after the death of his beloved grand-daughter Genie - the house was left in darkness.

Steve's dazzling spectacle returned last year though - in memory of the three-year-old - who died after trapping herself in a tumble dryer just over two years ago.

The event raised £650 for Crestwood Park Primary, where Genie's sister Emily is a pupil.

And this year Steve hopes to help another tot who has tugged at his heart strings - plucky Kingswinford four-year-old Oscar Fradgley; the only child in the country to be born without hands and feet.

Steve, who will be switching on the lights on December 1, told the News: "He's a little bit younger than our Genie and I think it's absolutely marvellous how he's progressing to say he's so young.

"But it isn't just the next 12 months that he needs care for, it's for the rest of his life - so the more money we can raise the better."

Oscar's dad
Chris said: "It's just amazing.

"Everything's been incredibly humbling. People just ring up out of the blue and offer help for our son.

"It never ceases to amaze us what people will do for somebody they don't even know.

"Oscar is just a little boy with disabilities and people do all of these things out of the kindness of their own hearts. It really is emotional."
